SNP Markers
Many members of the cluster have ordered tests of their SNP markers, either as Deep Clade-R, or as individual SNPs. The results show derived or positive (+ve) for S116 or P312 and S145 or L21. In November 2009, a new SNP was found in the "Walk The Y" project at FTDNA. This SNP, L226 has shown to be positive for all Irish Type III who have tested and negative for members of all other R1b clusters. This is the last +ve SNP and so we are now R-L226 (or R1b1b2a1a2f4) and is defining for our haplogroup.
EthnoAncestry advise S168 is equivalent to FTDNA's L226.
If you suspect that you are Irish Type III, just test L226 from the Advanced Markers page at FTDNA, or S168 from EthnoAncestry. There is no need to do a Deep Clade test which is considerably more expensive that just testing the one marker. L226/S168.
I encourage ALL Irish Type III members to test this SNP and to join the R-L226 project at FTDNA.

All that test positive for L226 are invited to join the R-L226 Project at FTDNA.
The R-Tree below shows how these SNPs separate the various branches of the R Clade.
